(b. 1997)
Celt Duk [K-elt Duke] is an artist and adventure cyclist from Montreal, Quebec, working mostly in paint and sometimes in words. Her work is shaped by time spent cycling through remote places, drawing inspiration from the landscapes and encounters along the way.
Fascinated by colour and light from a young age, she began painting long before she started travelling. Celt started selling her work at the age of 15, drawn early on to the natural world and surrealism, painting imagined and real places before she could reach them. As her audience grew, so did her practice, leading to work as a muralist and illustrator alongside exhibitions and an expanding online presence.
In 2020, after the world slowed at the start of the pandemic, she felt a strong pull to leave Montreal and see new places. She purchased a bicycle and set out alone into the eastern wilderness, often camping off the road in the woods, carrying only what she needed to survive and to paint what she found. Over the years, that first journey grew into something much larger: cycling over 15,000 kilometres across the continent, from the easternmost point of Newfoundland to the end of the Dempster Highway in the Northwest Territories, reaching the Arctic Ocean.
Celt continues to paint from these journeys as she continues to plan her future adventures.
